It began at about 7.30am in the morning which I have to say is not my happiest time to be awake but if we were gonna get to our first destination of Taupo in time it was a required sacrifice and at least I didn't have to drive so there was always time for a nap or two :P In total I believe Tim drove nearly 1000km for the whole trip which he was not too pleased about but he got breaks so I see no cause for complain.
Our trip had a pretty simple structure that looked like this:
Monday
- Drive to Taupo and check into Cottage
- Go white water rafting in a boat
- Go to dinner
- Sleep
Tuesday
- Drive to Napier
- Check into Hotel
- Swim with sharks
- Go to dinner
- Sleep
Wednesday
- Drive home (as I had work just as we got back to Jville)
So as you can see it was a pretty simple plan with the time left over being filled with walks and exploration. I pretty much took as many photos as possible and will begin uploading them shortly as I literally waiting for them to transfer on to a USB so I can put them up on this computer. So while I wait I shall share more of the brief but exciting journey.
The drive on the way to Taupo was a long one totalling in about 5hrs as we arrived at about middayish but it was cool watching the sun move across the sky and take pics of the different terrain as we passed it. Although I was never short on sheep and livestock to look at.
Our first break stop was at an Army Museum (I think) and not a minute too soon as Tim looked like he was about to eat his own arm if we didn't stop for a food and drink pit stop. We just had a very basic crackers and juice snack which although sounds mediocre was actually quite fulfilling.
Yay the transfer is done!!! Time for pics
- Firstly a tank from the first pit stop
However I find the camo look mildly ineffective in broad daylight |
Tim enjoying a refreshing beverage when we finally pulled over (I think he forgot I was thirsty too although I kept making him laugh so I got my revenge lol) |
- So this was a little daunting to drive into (along Desert Rd I think)
So we got to the cottage first but photos will come after cause I took ones at the water rafting first
The seat Tim and I sat in was ment to hold 3 people but because it was only us I got thrown from one side to the other every time it did a spin as my feet couldn't touch the bottom of the boat to hold myself down (the people sitting behind us laughed every time)
Next we drove around just exploring and found some an awesome hot waterfall that lead into a lake so we went for a swim but because I couldn't be bothered going back to the car to get my bikini the following ensued
- (NOTE: The following is not for those with a faint stomach or who have not seen a bra before)
In my defence there were only a few random tourists who I would never see again there so it wasn't sooo bad :P
Then we went back to the cottage quickly to shower and get changed.
Before heading out to dinner and yes I took photos of the food :)
Aren't I a sexy beast? :P
So after driving in a few circles and attempting to find a park we eventually ended up at the restaurant on time and ready to go and then we had to answer the hard question, what to have for dinner?
In the end I got me some ribs -nom nom nom- and Tim got this huge venison burger
Tim's giant burger that I swear was 75% meat |
Ribs ( which I had to get a doggy bag for) The mashed potato on the bottom was totally yummy |
And then of course after taking our time to enjoy our main course came the awesomeness that is............DESSERT!!!!
On the way to the cottage we bumped in to Huka Falls so decided to take a look
- It was a I wanna jump but I know I would die so I won't, moments lol But it still looked beautiful
And then of course you must pose in front of a waterfall :)
Timmles |
Rynri |
- More Huka Falls pics
- A video I took of the falls
We also stopped at this random clearing and took some photos of the sky cause it was just a really nice slow part of the day
I was trying to smile but my hair had other plans |
Taupo |
Tim pretending to listen to me :P |
Then we finally made it back to the cottage to find............wait for it............................................................................................ Llamas!!! Well kinda, they're really Alpacas but close enough :) And they had the best names
This is Harry |
And Ronald |
Draco... |
And just on the right attempting to disguise himself as a sheep's ass is that's right Dumbledore :) |
I thought you in particular tiffy would find that rather amusing :P
- The cottage was actually really nice and quaint and these are a few pics of the place:
Hidden T.V. |
Hidden T.V. Cabinet |
Lounge |
Dining Area |
Bedroom :P |
Mirror lol |
Shower (no bath) |
Toilet (I got a bit carried away with pics) |
Kitchen |
Out the balcony door |
So that was the cottage were we spent out first night
- Had a romantic supper
Yeah sparkling grapefruit juice is totally the most romantic of the juices :P |
- And a cosy breakfast the next morning
So that ends part one and I shall begin 'ROAD TRIP!!! Part #2- Napier' when I get home from work :)
Your videos are working! Also, the falls looks amazing, and the cottage looks bloody brilliant, so jealous.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of "bloody brilliant", RONALD! RONALD! I like Ronald! Though I also approve of Dumbledore's sneaky tricks, and Draco looks totally snooty as is befitting a Malfoy. Kudos to the person who named them! I hope you gave them a hug, at least.
Also, can't wait for part II. Does it involve sharks? I sure hope so!
